JORDAN CHIACCHIA
ABOUT
Jordan is a graphic designer and user experience designer.
She studied art at UAA in her hometown of Anchorage, Alaska
before transferring to U of I. Jordan will graduate from U of I
in 2024 with a B.A. in Art & Design. Her interests lie in improving digital spaces through research-based user experience design
and creating graphic solutions based on client needs. In Jordan’s
free time, she plays ultimate frisbee, engages in outdoor adventures, and dabbles in painting.
DESIGNER STATEMENT
My work is focused on graphic and user experience design. I tend to gravitate toward natural color palettes and draw inspiration from nature and my Alaskan upbringing. This influences a more organic shape language. In contrast, I utilize grids and alignment to establish structure in my work. I believe there is a balance to be found as a grid can provide the groundwork sometimes needed for organic elements.
In my experience as a graphic design student, I have developed branding assets for hypothetical brands, gained proficiency in photo editing and vector graphics, and cultivated my knowledge of layout and composition. Because I don’t follow a strict design style, I can easily adapt to the specific needs of each project I work on. Recently, I have designed for University of Idaho’s Ultimate Frisbee club. From disc and sticker designs, to flyers and social media posts, I’ve had the opportunity to practice my skills outside of the classroom.
As a user experience designer, I have learned to apply my graphic
design skills to create screens and user flows that are clean, easy to use, and flexible based on client needs. I have worked both in and out of
class on University of Idaho’s MyUI project. My time on the project has been spent researching the needs of users, such as students and faculty,
and using those discoveries to inform my screen designs for the
product. From those screens, I build prototypes to be tested with
users and make alterations.
As life moves forward, I intend to pursue a career in user
experience design supplemented with graphic design work. I find
that user experience design satisfies a need for challenge
and research-based design, while graphic design is an opportunity
for connection and greater creativity.
