Black Hole Foods

About the Project
Black Hole Foods is a collaborative project with
University of Idaho's Virtual Technology Design
program. The scope of the project was to create a cohesive brand and promotional materials for a developing video game.
The client was a group of creators from the Virtual Technology and Design program. They were developing a video game called Black Hole Foods. In this game players travel in a delivery truck to and from planets to a galactic grocery store. The objective of the game is to explore different worlds and collect rare items.
As an overall design style, the client wanted a modern twist on 50's retro futurism. My peer and I combined inspiration from old advertisements, architectural drawings, and media like The Jetsons, to develop a brand and logo for the game. From there we designed game posters, merchandise, and the game cover.

After many iterations, we developed a simple, yet bold logo with a black hole graphic replacing the "o". The typefaces chosen are similar to those that were used in the height of futurism, with a cleaner look. Based on images from the game, I illustrated their galactic delivery truck and the space rock on which the grocery store sits. We used the delivery truck graphic on our posters, and the space rock graphic on the game disc.
